Mount Buntay

Our journey to Mount Buntay began, as many adventures do, with a somewhat vague Facebook post. It mentioned a new hiking spot near Santa Magdalena in Sorsogon, a place perfect for escaping the noise of city life and enjoying the peace of nature. Intrigued, we set out with minimal information, relying on word-of-mouth directions and a healthy dose of adventurous spirit. There were no readily available maps or google maps. The mountain remained largely uncharted on digital platforms. This lack of information added to the thrill, transforming the hike into a true exploration.

The trail itself was a journey of discovery. We navigated unmarked paths, often relying on the kindness of local residents to guide us. The route took us through areas near Pakol Hills, familiar territory that provided a sense of orientation before venturing into the more remote sections of the trek. The absence of houses and clear pathways increased the sense of adventure, but also highlighted the importance of careful planning and local knowledge.

As we ascended, the landscape gradually unfolded, revealing the beauty of the surrounding countryside. The sounds of rural life, horses, carabao, and dogs, filled the air, creating a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere. These animals, integral to the local community, served as a constant reminder of the connection between the people and their environment. This was not just a hike; it was an immersion in the daily life of Santa Magdalena.

Reaching the summit of Mount Buntay offered a breathtaking reward. The panoramic view showcased the rolling hills and the charming barangays of Santa Magdalena spread out below. It was a picturesque scene, a testament to the natural beauty of the region. From this vantage point, one could appreciate the quiet charm of the area, a place untouched by mass tourism.

Beyond the stunning scenery, Mount Buntay offered a glimpse into the local economy. We observed the community's reliance on their water buffalo and coconut harvests, witnessing firsthand the hard work and dedication that shaped their lives. This connection to the land was palpable, adding a layer of cultural richness to the experience.

Mount Buntay is not just a hike; it's an adventure, a journey into the heart of rural Sorsogon. While the lack of clear trails adds to the challenge, it also enhances the sense of accomplishment and the appreciation for the unspoiled beauty of the destination. It's a place where one can escape the ordinary, connect with nature, and gain a deeper understanding of the local culture. For those seeking a less-traveled path, Mount Buntay offers a unique and rewarding experience.

In Harmony with Nature: My visit to Pakol View

Pakol View is a hidden gem, nestled in the mountains, where nature shows off its best beauty. As soon as I arrived, I felt like I had stepped into a world far away from the busy, noisy life I know. It was a place where the air was fresh, the surroundings were quiet, and everything seemed to be in perfect harmony. The journey to Pakol View was an adventure in itself. As I climbed higher, the city noise faded, and I started to feel the peaceful calm of the mountains. The higher I went, the more stunning the views became everything feel more alive.

When I reached Pakol View, I was amazed by the sight in front of me. The view stretched out for miles , rolling hills. The view was so big that it felt like the world went on forever. I just stood there, taking it all in. It was so quiet that you could hear the wind moving through the trees and the calls of birds flying high above. The stillness of the place made me feel calm and small, as if I was just a tiny part of a much bigger world.Pakol View is not just about looking at the scenery. It’s also a place where you can walk and explore. As I hiked, I marveled at how the sunlight played through the trees and how fresh the air felt. Each step made me feel more connected to nature, and I couldn’t help but smile at the peace surrounding me.

One of the best moments of my trip was watching the sunset. As the sun started to go down, the whole landscape changed. The mountains turned orange and pink, glowing in the last light of the day. It felt like magic. The sky slowly turned dark, and stars appeared one by one. The quiet of the night in the mountains was incredible. As I looking up at the stars, I felt so thankful to be there.

Pakol View is a place that helps you slow down and relax. It’s a peaceful spot, perfect for escaping the noise of daily life. The natural beauty and the stillness of the area make you feel calm and connected to the world around you. It’s a reminder of how wonderful it is to step outside, breathe in fresh air, and enjoy the simple things in life.

A perfect family adventure,

from highland views to warm water

Spending time with family is always special, and our recent trip was no exception. My cousins and I, along with our aunts and uncles, decided to embark on an adventure that would take us to some of the most beautiful spots in our area. It was a day filled with laughter, delicious food, breathtaking views, and unforgettable moments.

Our trip began in the morning as we made our way to Cogon Highland. The fresh mountain air greeted us as we arrived, and the stunning scenery immediately caught our attention. We started our day with a hearty meal delicious pancit that satisfied our cravings and a warm cup of coffee that made the experience even more comforting. As we enjoyed our breakfast, we couldn't help but admire the beauty surrounding us. The landscape was too picturesque to ignore, so we made sure to capture the moment with lots of photos, preserving the memories of our time at the highland.

By 3 PM, it was time for the next leg of our trip. Our aunts and uncles busied themselves preparing food and drinks for our visit to Irosin San Benon Resort, where we planned to have a night swim.

Upon arrival, we were immediately captivated by the beauty of the place. The warm pools, heated naturally by the nearby Mt. Bulusan, provided the perfect setting for a soothing swim. The moment we stepped into the water, all our stress melted away. It was the ideal way to unwind and bond as a family. We laughed, played, and cherished every second of the experience. Of course, we couldn’t leave without taking plenty of selfies ,the resort’s enchanting atmosphere was something we wanted to remember forever.

As the night went on, we continued to enjoy each other’s company, grateful for the opportunity to create lasting memories together. This trip was more than just a getaway, it was a reminder of the joy of family, the beauty of nature, and the simple pleasures that make life special.

TRAVEL WRITING:

Reconnecting with Nature

On June 12-13, 2024, we went to Baybay Lalud in Barangay Lalud, Bulusan, Sorsogon for a team-building activity. This was part of our church’s activities. It was not just a trip, but also a chance to bond and deepen our relationship with God.

Since we were near the sea, while doing the activity, I really appreciated the beauty of the place.

But before we reached our destination, we faced a test. We went to a narrow, winding path – unpaved, rocky, and lined only with trees to hold onto. The surrounding was breathtaking, with only trees and birds in sight. The journey was exhausting, with a seemingly endless path leading down to the sea.

But when we finally reached the top, the stunning view took our breath away – the majestic sea stretched before us. It was as if the struggle was a foreshadowing of the beauty to come.

As we arrived, our exhaustion vanished, replaced by the cool breeze and serene atmosphere. The pristine spotless beach, crystal-clear waters, and blue sky fascinated us. Even the rain couldn’t dampen our spirits, as there were many cottages to rent. We could also pitch our tents, as the area was spacious. The sunrise and sunset was breathtaking. Peaceful, with few people around. This was indeed a paradise to unwind, shed stress and exhaustion. A place to reconnect with nature.

Family Getaway at San Benon Hot Springs

Last February, our family had a great time when our cousins from Cavite and Manila came home for a vacation. To make their visit special, we decided to go to San Benon Hot Springs in Irosin, Sorsogon. We left at noon, and the ride was filled with laughter and stories. The fresh air and beautiful views made the trip even more exciting.

When we arrived, we were greeted by the sight of steaming pools surrounded by nature. The warm water was inviting, and we quickly changed into our swimwear. Everyone eagerly stepped into the pools, enjoying the soothing heat. Some of us swam around, while others simply sat back and let the water relax their tired muscles. It was the perfect way to unwind and enjoy the moment.

After swimming, we enjoyed a picnic with delicious home-cooked food—adobo, grilled fish, pancit, and fresh fruits. We ate under the shade while chatting and sharing stories. As the sun began to set, the place became even more peaceful, and the warm glow of the evening made the experience more special.

We stayed until late at night, enjoying the hot springs under the stars. The cool night air made the warm water even more comforting. Before leaving, we took one last dip, cherishing the moment. The trip to San Benon was not just a fun getaway but also a time for our family to bond and create lasting memories.

Finding joy in the journey

Located in the heart of Irosin, Sorsogon, Gabz’k is a wonderful escape for travelers looking for relaxation, a little bit of adventure, and a taste of local best service. Few miles away from the majestic Bulusan Volcano, this comfortable place offers an experience that shares the beauty of natural and modern comfort.

The first impression you get when you arrive at Gabz’k is the calm atmosphere. The pool area, draped with string lights and tropical plants, is a lovely spot both day and night. The swimming pool sparkles during the day, awaiting a refreshing dip. In the evenings, after the sun goes down and the elements of the outdoors come to life, the pool area becomes a magical oasis of warm lights, perfect for night swims or gatherings with friends.

I had so much fun and relaxation during my stay at Gabz’k. The accommodating staff attended to every need and the local cuisine was a heavenly treat—fresh, flavorful, and comforting. Whether relaxing by the pool, enjoying quiet time in the garden, or visiting nearby sights, every moment was perfect.

But it was not the scenery or the activity that made my stay special; it was the in between moments. Weaving themselves into pieces of memories I will carry with me, lazy afternoons spent in a tangle around the pool, random conversations with strangers who were once fellow travelers and staring into a future that is filled with the rumble of a volcano somewhere in the distance.

As my time at Gabz’k came to a close, I discovered I was departing with more than memories and momento. I’d taken an appreciation for the fine, simple things in life and the need to slow down.

Gabz’k in Irosin isn’t merely an accommodation—it represents an adventure, a paradise to unwind, and a chance to enjoy the beauty of the now. Whether you are a lone traveler looking for a reprieve, a couple on a romantic getaway
